When Taimaa Abazli and her husband Mohannad left Syria in early 2016, they hoped to join family members in Germany, where hundreds of thousands of #refugees had ended up. But after living in refugee camps for nearly a year, they were offered relocation to Estonia, a country she never heard of and could barely pronounce. “Est-WAN-ya?” They never expected to be relocated to a small town with no Muslims, in a country with no mosque.⠀
⠀
The first month was harder than expected, says Taimaa, pictured here in the countryside near their apartment in Polva. Mohannad worried he wouldn’t be able to find a job, too, so he decided to bring the family to Germany. Now they are back in a refugee camp, waiting to see if they can appeal their asylum assignment. ⠀
