Happy birthday to Bernd Becher, one half of a husband-and-wife artistic team with photographer Hilla Becher. From our collection, “Water Towers” (1980), is a series of photographs from their decades-long project documenting various industrial structures. The photographs were organized based on functional typologies and arranged into grids or rows. This served to invoke and reinforce the sculptural properties of the architecture—they called the subjects of their photographs “anonymous sculptures”. #Guggenheim #GuggenheimCollection #BerndBecher
