The violence in #charlottesville has not only spotlighted the racial fault line that has never gone away for African-Americans and people of color but also reminds us of the antisemitism and homophobia still present in many Americans. "You don't look Jewish," I've often been told. And every time that is offered, it is done so meant as a compliment. "This is what Jewish looks like," I always respond. In 1966, when #dianavreeland put the then rising star #barbrastreisand on the cover of Vogue, it was a very big happening in the evolution of the acceptance of not just Jewish but anything ethnic in fashion and cultural, aesthetic appreciation. I was a child, but I remember it well the pride my family and their friends took in this historic decision Mrs. Vreeland made.
