I'm petrified of rock fall. Here I am, wearing a fresh black-eye, photographed about a week ago on the side of a wall in Greenland roughly 2,200 feet up on the wall. The small orange tent far below to the right of me is our high camp, a tent perched on small pillar roughly 1,600 feet above our "camp 2" and the perfect amount of space for the 5 of us for a wall siege. I'll post an aerial video soon. The black eye I'm wearing was from some minor rockfall I took to the face a couple days earlier. I also managed to sprain both of my thumbs, on separate accidents, one from a clumsy fall and the other kayaking. At the end of the day I'm hardly worse for wear, it happens. Rock fall and avalanches are 2 of my biggest fears in the mountains, I've seen a lot of it over the years and have lost a handful of friends to it. The valley we were in was thundering with it, all day, everyday. The mountains can be merciless, they are constantly changing and exfoliating, especially in glaciated mountain ranges like this. It can feel a little like Russian Roulette at times. These are places where a rescue would be extremely complicated and you do your best to move through questionable terrain fast, choose smart places to bivy, and always wear a helmet! Grateful to once again have had the strong and experienced expedition leader @mikelibecki ?? I've followed him around the world on numerous expeditions, to the most remote places I've ever been and I trust his instincts whole heartedly, his experience level is incredible. Thanks for keeping us safe Mike and for sharing so many hidden gems on this earth with me over the years! @ethan_pringle @andy_mann @connor_seybert @3stringsproductions @dell @reddigitalcinema @arcteryx @alpinestartfoods
