#waspworkout ??‍♀️#FivePoundsForLuck! I started shooting Antman and The Wasp this week and this got me to thinking about my "routine" surrounding my films. As in, routinely I lose about 5lbs before I shoot a movie and then I intentionally put it back on when I'm done. Why? I'm not proud of the answer, but the truth is that I sit at a healthy weight (125lbs) when I'm not filming, a weight that I know keeps me and my immune system strong. BUT...125lbs, while being perfectly healthy for me in life, is NOT the "perfect" standard I feel pressure to live up to on-camera. And, though it's only a small concession (in the face of greater pressure) that routine is still perpetuating the very same lie that is driving me to lose those 5lbs in the first place: that a healthy weight is not a beautiful weight. ? I try to fight it. In life I don't succumb to this pressure, on camera I find it so much harder. But on camera is when I MUST find the courage to represent a healthy standard...I consider it my responsibility as a woman in this spotlight. A healthy weight is different for every woman. For some a healthy resting weight is the "perfect standard" we strive for today. For some a healthy resting weight is the "perfect standard" from the Renaissance era in Europe. The issue isn't the weight, it's that there's ONE standard when we are so varied, each unique in shape, weight and build. But here's what I've come to really and truly understand...it's not most MEN who rigidly hold us to these standards, it's mostly us WOMEN. Happy to be wrong, but it's been my observation that most men want YOUTH, in all of its shapes and forms: full, small, soft, hard, tall, short, lean or plump. But, while most women see beauty and desirability at every AGE, most of us love slim, lean, long-limbed, women with great bone-structure and sharp jaw lines. And so when we're talking about the issue of weight, it's my opinion that that's on us, ladies, so then it's up to US, it's up to ME, it's up to you, to change it. And that starts with the pressure we put on OURSELVES. (...If we're talking about AGEISM...well, that's a whole other discussion. One I look forward to having. ?)
