Photo and text by @sharksneedlove | The majority of turtles are considered endangered, or worse, with the leading threat being mankind. Bad decisions such as purchasing seafood with high bycatch or regularly using plastics that could find themselves floating around in the sea are just two examples. In addition to human threats, turtles have other, more natural predators to worry about, such as tiger sharks. Interestingly, recent footage showed a turtle and shark battling it out at the ocean’s surface. The turtle was seen accelerating towards the shark whilst twisting its body vertical (full shell facing the shark) meaning the shark struggled to a) keep up with the agile turns of the turtle and b) open its mouth wide enough to take a bite due to the shell ‘shield’!
