Photo and text by @sharksneedlove | Images of great hammerheads are fairly common, however an image of a great hammerhead with mating scars is almost unheard of. This rare treat shows a large female, approximately 4 meters / 12ft in total length, covered in mating scars which experts believe are around 4 weeks old. Where she got them, nobody knows…When she got them, nobody knows. Great hammerheads hold their reproductive secrets tightly, however I’m hoping with my husband's (@tristanguttridge) latest hammerhead research, he’ll soon have some answers that will lead us to piece together these endangered sharks' top secrets.
