BABY DRIVER SOUNDTRACK IS NUMBER 1 RIGHT NOW!!! Wow. Here's a little bit of the back story about Easy: @edgarwright told me that I needed to record a version of Easy by the Commodores (my character sings it in the film). My first reaction was to scratch my head & I thought it was going to be a bit of a challenge due to the context of the film. 23 years prior to this phone conversation...I have never thought about covering "EAAASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNING"- Lionel Richie. Not once lol. I don't want to spoil the plot because y'all need to see it!...I play Baby's Mom. She's the one who gave him the iPod & most of the music he listens to throughout the film. Basically, the song is something that's very sentimental to Baby. Baby's mom was a singer & was probably very close to him. She's a bit tragic in the case of what could have/should have been etc! Sad isn't what necessarily comes to mind when you think of the song until you listen to the lyrics. I needed to make it bittersweet for multiple reasons. I needed to find a way to get all of that across without taking away the original song's charm WHILE making it sound like it could have been in 2003. Without making it really ???. I didn't make the song thinking of myself/own music but how this other person would sing it. Which I have never done before. The incredibly talented @catpowerofficial was a big inspiration for the song AND Baby's mom. We all know she's kinda the best when it comes to making covers magical. There's some other huge influences behind it musically but I'm not going to get into that right now lol. My friend @johnmfanderson helped me figure out how I should play it & then I taught baby Baby how to play it. John also plays on the recording. Nigel Godrich produced it. I had to record a rough a couple of days before I had to film. The original vocal on the demo was only one out 2 straight vocal takes. I believe the majority of the final version is pretty much the single take. I'm not quite sure who sings the backing vocals/some of the harmonies but thanks to the person who did! I'm very happy that I somehow got to be in this film & contribute to it musically. Please go see the film in theaters!?
