@pinkmantaray is a decorated swimmer ?who was recruited to Harvard as a female, but has found peace after transitioning to a male.
While Schuyler was growing up, his mother, Terry, made sure he and his brother were connected to their Korean roots. They attended Korean school, spoke the language at home, and visited the country regularly. Both Schuyler and Terry were nervous about Schuyler coming out to his grandmother, fearing she would disown him.
To their surprise, she accepted her grandson’s identity, but told him he still needed to fulfill his duties as a Korean daughter to take care of his parents. Now, Schuyler competes as the first trans male athlete at a NCAA Division I school. While he competes, spectators can see the tattoo written in Korean near his mastectomy scar. It translates into “take care of your parents,” and is in his grandmother’s handwriting.
