The World at Night photography
August 21 will be the first total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. in 38 years, and the first one visible across the country in 99 years. That’s why it’s nicknamed the Great American Eclipse! It is expected to become the most viewed natural phenomenon in the human history! Totality lasts a maximum of 2min 40sec south of Carbondale, Illinoi, but the shadow crosses 13 other states too from Oregon to South Carolina including over 20 national park units (monuments, historic sites, reserves, etc). The partial eclipse will be visible from all north America but it’s nothing like the total eclipse.
This short timelapse video shows totality of Aug 2008 in Altai Mountain, southern Siberia. Interested in solar eclipses? Read my recent story on natgeo.com/travel “Chasing Eclipses Across 7 Continents” (google “eclipse chasing natgeo”). @natgeocreative @ナショナルジオグラフィック #eclipse2017 #solareclipse #eclipse #timelapse #russia #siberia
