A year ago, on June 12, 2016, Kaliesha Andino lost her childhood friend Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo. The pair had gone out on the town in Orlando, where Omar had just moved from Nashville, to "Latin Night" at Pulse nightclub. By dawn, Omar was among the 49 people killed after Omar Mateen carried out what became the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Andino, who goes by Kali, was shot several times. "For a lot of us in the broader LGBT community, it did feel really personal," says photographer Preston Gannaway (@pgannawayphoto), who has been documenting the stories of queer youth across the country, including those recovering from the Pulse attack. "I wanted to tell a story that showed a little bit more of the long-term effects that this was having." See more at TIME.com/one-year-after-pulse
