Adam West, the actor who became famous for his straight-faced portrayal of Batman in the 1960s TV series, has died after a "short but brave" battle with leukemia, his family said Saturday in a statement. He was 88. The campy show, which also featured West as Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne, went off the air after three seasons. At one point, West would later reveal, he turned down a chance to play James Bond in 1971's 'Diamonds Are Forever,' saying a British actor should take the role. But West continued on as the Caped Crusader in public appearances and later voiced Batman in cartoons. "You get terribly typecast playing a character like that," he told the AP in 2014.
