One thing that is really important to remember today is that your Muslim friends and community are grieving after the attacks in Manchester too. I read an eye opening, honest piece by @glamrou about what it is like for a person of colour, with a Muslim family, at a time like this. Link in my story. Check yourself at this time of fear and sadness, don't lump extremists in with an entire group/culture/religion. The definition of terrorism is 'the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims'. It is not defined by religion or race. If you're going to spew racism and hate speech, know that you are paying a huge disrespect to the innocent, young lives taken in this violent and evil attack. Hate only breeds more ignorance and trauma for those that have lost family and friends. Know the facts and remember that most of the acts of terror in the past 10 years have been committed by far right, white men, in the name of their god, however this is not reported on in the same way by our media. We need to support our Muslim community during this time of grief and pain. Don't let fear mongering win, we must open our arms and strengthen our communities. There has been so many amazing stories flooding out of Manchester about the strength of the city and not allowing what's happened to tear people apart. It's really inspiring. It's really moved me.
