An eastern long-beaked echidna named J.R. at the @タロンガ動物園. This species is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and little is known about their reproductive behaviors, so unfortunately it has been very difficult to breed this species in captivity and maintain its population. Although eastern long-beaked echidnas are legally protected in their native lands of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, they are still killed by hunters and suffer from a continuous loss of habitat due to deforestation.
