Photo by @FransLanting // Happy Mother's Day to all mothers out there! // In early summer in Antarctica multitudes of young emperor penguin chicks are nurtured on sea ice around the margins of the continent. Their parents alternate between shuttling in food from open water and brooding their adorable offspring. It’s a race against time, because they have to fledge their young before the sea ice melts later in the summer. Nobody knows yet what the exact effects of global warming will be for these remarkable birds, but while they do what they do best, it is our responsibility to look ahead to safeguard a future for them.
