Today I rewatched the "Phantom of the Opera"- growing up it was my most favourite movie.
And like all the other girls i was asking myself the same question: why didnt Kristine choose the Phantom? He discovered her hiden talent, he gave her the status of a prima, he would literally kill for her. Also he was a genius: mature, smart, he had a great taste and a big heart.
But instead she chose a young handsome duke, who didn't take notice of her at first. Why was that so?
The answer is obvious, but it took me a whole decade to understand this conundrum. In comparison with the Phantom, Raul didn't care about her height or the color of her eyes-he loved the way she moved, the way she thought and the things she said. He loved her innocence, her attitude towards people and her optimism.
Raul loved everything the Phantom couldnt see, because the "Music of the Night" is different from the Music of the light. It demands more effort, patience and constant self-perfection. It demands more attention and more determination.
Kristine was correct to choose a man with a great heart rather than a blind genius.
And taken aback with these thoughts I shall make my way towards the Zurich Lake in order to enjoy this delicious air and to take in the beauty of this city for the last time this spring.
