Photo by @jeff_gusky // Now in complete darkness under a French farm field in Picardy, this inscription was left a century ago by an American WWI soldier living in this large underground city. It was Spring, 1918. The Boston Red Socks won game after game that would culminate with the winning of baseball’s 1918 World Series. Little did these young Americans know that their beloved Red Socks would not win again for almost nine decades. After the 1918 season the legendary Babe Ruth, nicknamed the Bambino, was traded to the New York Yankees. The Red Socks 86 year long losing streak became known as “The Curse of The Bambino”.
