As curators, inspiring future artists and museum visitors is an important and enjoyable part of what we do. We work with our museum-education colleagues to develop programming for families, kids, and teens, including tours of the gallery and hands-on workshops. After learning about collage and décollage and seeing the use of torn posters by artist #JacquesVillegl in “Quai des célestins” (1965), this school group used magazines, newspapers, posters, and cut-up paper, combining colors, textures, and shapes into their own décollage works. This activity taught them that an artist's process can begin with everyday materials—including unexpected finds.
