Surfing in Hawaii is a sport for Kings and in modern times, it would seem a sport for Queens as well. :) As the Hawaiian people work towards rekindling their traditional culture, after years of oppression, they are experiencing a deliberate resurgence of indigenous tradition that is inextricably tied to the ocean. When babies are born for example, their umbilical cords are buried near the sea and when someone dies, their ashes are scattered back into the ocean, in an emotional ceremony with friends and family.
