Elephants gestate for 24 months, so sometimes it is hard to tell for sure when they are pregnant. The last time I saw Kinna, we thought she was....and sure enough- baby ele born today! @dswt ・・・
We're grandparents (again!) — #DSWT graduate orphan Kinna has had her first baby, a perfect little girl who we've named #Kama. Immediately after giving birth, mother, newborn daughter, and their attentive entourage of nannies headed to our Ithumba stockades to share the moment with Benjamin and the rest of their DSWT family.
We rescued Kinna as a one-week-old orphan back in 1999, so she never really had a chance to know her own mother. The fact that she can now raise her own baby in the wild, as nature intended, is a huge triumph for both Kinna and our Orphans' Project. We can't wait to watch little Kama grow and flourish!
