@timothy.curtis #igtakeover .... Kermit Oswald... "In the Spring of 1982 I made 2 carved tables for Keith using a slotted interlocking structure I had been working with for 6 years. The early tables were like small explosions and painted in red Enamel. Keith had one or two of those from 1978. He asked me to make larger more monumental tables for his apartment in early '82. A year and a half later he came to me to ask if I'd collaborate on his 1983 show at Shafrazi but scaling them even larger as Totems. I started in early October 1983 in our Greenpoint loft. The entire project lasted 60 days and employed just about everyone we knew. Wood routers replaced the original chainsaw drawn lines but the paint finish was the same. Hand painted lines and foam rollers on glass panels to paint the surfaces. To me it was an continuation of what we'd been doing most of our lives together. Having fun making something we both had an interest in and staying out of trouble at the same time. Keith told me it was his favorite show he'd ever put together. It mostly sold out on the night of the opening. I guess it's in the history books now but at the time we were two 25 year olds doing what we'd been doing since we were kids. Encouraging each other onward, usually around a picnic table with a line and something to put that line on." -Kermit Oswald @wisdomtalker /// ??Joseph Coscia Jr. Chief Photographer Metropolitan Museum of Art... @joseph.coscia
