Shopping with my fave girl and found these brothers going through Basquiat tees. I love seeing this...but. When the film was released 20 years ago, it played art houses only and then was pulled prematurely (long story). It was clear to me then that Basquiat's story and aesthetic had a much broader appeal and audience, particularly (though not exclusively) among black youth....for obvious fucking reasons! But the industry - more specifically, too many of its decision-makers - often, in cases like this, don't get it, undervalue it, miss the opportunity. The cumulative negative effects of those mistakes add up in myriad ways, but the universe bends toward justice. #BlackLivesMatter...universally. They, too, can be beautiful, inspirational, aspirational. And sell t-shirts.?✊?
