On ice and elevated, just as the doctor prescribed. Tech Tip Tuesday: Last week on a seemingly harmless hike back to the car, on my first day of a dream adventure in Iceland, I slipped and broke my ankle. I'm not used to needing help to get to locations, never mind coffee in the morning. So the past several days have been humbling to say the least. Knowing that there was no way I was 'going home' I swallowed my pride and started looking for solutions. The day after 'the slip' @retro_outdoors tracked down some crutches with spikes for the glacier -- they weren't fast but they were effective. Next, we converted a gear sled into a transportation device and I soon learned that my knee would become a replacement for a foot at times -- no matter how uncomfortable it was. This image was shot the day after 'the slip' by my good buddy @renan_ozturk when I was convinced all I had was a little sprain. And it captures what this #techtiptuesday is all about... Pride. Pride is a black hole for photographers and this week has been a reminder of that for me. It's often confused with artistic expression, but they are two completely different things. Art is what you feel in your heart, pride is what you feel in your mind. Art says go, pride says no. The sooner you can learn to check your pride at the door, and stop giving a shit about what people and other photographers think about you, the sooner you will start creating memorable, special, awesome work. Over the past week, I've literally crawled on the ground past some of my heroes as they scaled giant ice walls around me. It may not have been pretty, but I came home with the images I'd been dreaming of for months. It's probably true of all artistic pursuits but its especially relevant today given the popularity of photography. Who cares what camera you shoot, what models you work with, what computer you edit on... if you are willing to crawl to make your dream photograph I can tell you that it will be worth every inch. #camp4pix #iceland #itsbroke
