Yesterday was beyond beautiful. The @island.yoga sister tribe of women held a birthing ceremony for me and Poppy led by @kellyarobinson and it was so, so, so powerful. We gathered in the studio late at night, everyone dressed in white. They set up an altar for Poppy with crystals, shells, candles, flowers and gems. I added Bunny, her first stuffed animal (that Ringo keeps trying to steal!) and after calling in our mothers and grandmothers I was showered in birth blessings. They brushed my hair, washed my feet with flower water and everyone now has a birth bracelet around their wrist to stay connected in anticipation for Poppy's arrival. The mothers in the circle shared their loving birth experiences, all so different, all so beautiful. We sang and drew goddess cards. I got Green Tara; "Start Delegating - ask others to help you instead of trying to do everything yourself". I couldn't stop laughing... It's the most accurate card. I always think I need to do everything on my own and it hit me, even though I'm surrounding myself with people for this birth, in the back of my mind I still think it's something I'm completely alone in and it scares me. But - I'm not alone. I have so much support. Generations of women before me. Tribes of sisters by my side. A whole community birthing with me.
I went to bed feeling so loved and so held and so at peace. So grateful for the Island Yoga tribe of women for holding space for us and for helping me keep my feet on the ground. These weeks have not been easy and I keep shifting from patience to anxiousness, from trust to doubt, from love to fear... It's all ok and all is well. I've decided not to to the sweeping and to stop thinking there is a "deadline". Doula or no doula, home or hospital, today or in two weeks from now... It's going to be perfect and will play out exactly the way it's meant to happen.
