What happens behind the scenes when an artwork is installed? This time-lapse video documents the entire process when Sun Yuan & Peng Yu’s “Can’t Help Myself” was installed in the Tower 5 gallery of the museum. Before the “tame” machine became a lively work of art, we had to do a lot of problem solving. For example, the installation team worked closely with architectural engineers to determine how to build the artificial floor where the base of the robotic arm sits, which part of the floor needed to get reinforced, and the height of the visual sensor on the ceiling in order to achieve best coordination.
