Photo by @joepetersburger / @thephotosociety // SNOW BREAKERS // Hungarian naked lily, Colchicum hungaricum, is an endemic, endangered species of Hungary. It lives exclusively on the Southern slopes of one mountain in the world, called Szarsomlyo. Limestone mining is still threatens its habitat, but it seems it is controlled enough now to protect this tiny beauty. The species is the earliest blooming one in Hungary, developing flowers in January, early February, but sometimes even in December. I took this image from a low angle of view with a telephoto lens, so the surrounding snow gave a perfect white environment for the white flowers.
