I'm on a gorgeous Island with beloved friends for the wedding of two of my dearest buddies, but my heart has been heavy for the past few days with the attacks on our communities and the Nation-wide ICE raids tearing apart families. It's been a struggle to be present and celebrate what's beautiful about life, but I keep reminding myself of these words: "JOY IS AN ACT OF RESISTANCE". Love and friendship are also acts of resistance. These girls are my 'rainbow crew' and we call ourselves that because we come from all over the world. Our families came from Honduras, Palestine, Africa, China, Japan, Italy, & East Europe. There are people who believe that we should be afraid of each other and see only what divides us, but we refuse! We choose to see our kindred hearts, and smiles and powerful spirits. Our friendship is a miracle, and also an act of resistance. This is why we fight, why we resist. To be able to celebrate and protect the precious beauty in one another. We must fight, and march, and organize like warriors, but we must also love like warriors.
