To the city of Detroit, Senator Bert Johnson, Tobias, thank you. They gave me this tribute sat night- it reads- "Let it be known, That it is an honor to recognize and salute Talib Kweli Greene for his social activism in music and entertainment. Talib has consistently exhibited a deep rooted care for people. He has always spoken out against social injustices, such as police brutality. In 2000, along with Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def, he organized the "HipHop For Respect" album to address the murder of Amadou Diallo by the New York City Police Dept. in 2005, Kweli and Yasiin Bey gathered with supporters at City Hall to demand that the Federal Government drop the million dollar bounty that was placed on political activist Assata Shakur's head and remover her from the terrorist list. These are just a few instances of many in which Talib has contributed to society by advocating in a radical and courageous way. Never compromised as an artist, Talib founded Javotti Media in 2011. He has continued an Afrocentric legacy of entrepreneurship that unfolds the true nature of HipHop culture to the world. In special tribute, therefore, we extend our gratitude to Talib Kweli Greene for his continued social activism, bold leadership, and unyielding integrity as an artist." Im not here for props or accolades but I do feel blessed and honored by the city of Detroit and I want to extend my thanks to the beautiful people there. The show Saturday was amazing, yall brought me plaques and Dillas Donuts what more could an MC want? I love y'all. Peace
