My grandpa bowka is seriously one of the most inspiring humans I've ever met. ❤ He is such a special man with an incredible story. He escaped death and fortunately fled to America from Kurdistan after Saddam Hussein wanted him killed. Why? He was wanted for his paintings that depicted the true story of what was happening to the Kurds under the Saddam regime. Throughout his life he's been imprisoned, shot and has sacrificed so much that I can't begin to write it all down. Today at 97, he continues to paint the most beautiful artwork (some of his work can be seen in The White House!) My dream is to open a museum in his name one day. If you ever wondered where the name 'Sazan' came from, it came from this man. He named me! (I was told it means 'compromise'.) I love that even though he left Kurdistan - his heart never did. I'm grateful for these memories and stories I also get to cherish with Stevie who is getting to know so much about the history of my people. (Go watch my Stories to see him speaking Kurdish ??)
