Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety // Red deer stag during a ferocious blizzard – In preparation for my upcoming month away in the Scottish highlands I’ve been trying, amongst many other things, to sort through some new images to post whilst I’m away. This is not an easy task for me as anything that requires a consistent train of thought, apart from photography of course, seems to something of a struggle for me. All of my tens of thousands of unprocessed RAW are on at least 5 different hard drives and in multiple folders but as time passes I am finally getting around to centralising them all on one or two 5TB drives. That finished process however remains in the distant future and for now it’s still a case of me drifting around various folders, remembering memorable shoots and then trying to sort through them properly so that all of the decent images have been processed. This deer stag image for example was only discovered and processed a couple of days ago but was probably captured about 3-4 years ago and whilst it’s from a shoot that I’ve posted from previously from it is a completely unique and distinct image, and one that I should really have found earlier. I’m hoping to encounter some conditions such as these during this upcoming month away but translating heavy snow successfully into images is not always easy. Here, in the shelter of a pine forest the nearby trees give a backdrop against which the snowflakes can be revealed but this is not always possible high on the mountains with the hares. The backdrops tend to be completely white, and extremely distant whilst the exposed nature of the terrain and higher wind speeds creates a different type of snowfall and one that is less likely to be so beautifully revealed. Nevertheless, with a month in which to work this is hopefully a conundrum that I’ll find a way to solve.
