today is my last day at TD Bank. after almost 4 years of retail banking and coming home after work to pursue my passions, i am moving forward in the direction of my dreams. the bank was my day job - but they also were so much more. i met some of my best friends through working at three different stores. i challenged myself to tackle a full time job and my art. i somehow made ends meet when the bank let me be part time as i tried to "make it." at one point, i was a head teller - a manager of the tellers and a critical role in a store - during a successful time. it was fun. it was real. and it was worth it.

people often asked me why i work a day job. the answer is that i don't want to rely on my creativity and passions to pay my rent. i enjoy going out in the city and working a job that teaches me new things while some nights driving to a school to educate and share stories. i am infinitely thankful that TD gave me the time to learn to balance.

now that my memoir is wrapping up, i am ready to say goodbye to one of the busiest, greatest and most challenging chapters of my life. just like how today is Obamas last day in the white house - it is time to move onto the next chapter. i am excited to carry with me all i have learned.

as i head off to be an operations assistant at a company that seems right up my alley next week - i just want to remind you (and myself) again and again - we are all made of many things. we can do many things. and we will become many more things.
