In 1858, King George V of Hanover began building the #medieval castle as a birthday present to his wife, Queen Marie. War broke out in 1866 while it was still under construction, leaving the #castle unfinished and uninhabited for almost 80 years.

Visitors can now tour the neo-Gothic castle.
