Southern River Otter (Lontra provocax) Photo by @schaferpho, @ナショナルジオグラフィック – At dawn this morning, we finally found the animal we have spent days looking for: the critically endangered Southern River Otter, possibly the rarest otter on earth. They have vanished from much of their original range in southern Chile, but still hang on in a few protected areas and remote rivers. As with all otters, these guys are hyperactive, and my greatest challenge is simply capturing them holding still.
