On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama's inauguration set an attendance record for any event held in Washington, DC. Although no official count was taken, the government agencies and federal officials who coordinated security and traffic management determined the attendance count to be 1.8 million people, based on information collected by cameras and individuals on the ground.
