Basic human equality and nonviolent protest were at the center of Martin Luther King Jr's message. When other activists promoted matching violence perpetrated against them with bigger more powerful violence, MLK proved that intelligent discourse and nonviolent protests could actually bring about big change.
His belief and advocacy that all humans are created equal was a powerful influence to me as a kid. We are all the same, all over the world. We all want the same things: to be understood, to feel safe, to give love and be loved.
I celebrate him today, how he lived, his use of his voice, and his sustaining messages for our future.
