We are sad to share that a Guam kingfisher died Jan. 7 at the Bird House. At 17 years old, he was considered geriatric for his species. Prior to his arrival at the Zoo in July 2013, he lived at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. Although he did not sire any chicks, he served as a terrific ambassador for his species. These birds are the most endangered species in the Zoo’s collection; only 145 individuals remain in the world.
