The girl on my left is Sophia. Her mom sent me a Snapchat telling me that she was volunteering at Elephant Nature Park. Initially? Smokey Husky and I didn't want to see the elephants, it just felt touristy and I didn't want to bother them. I didn't want to pet a sedated tiger or zip line through a gibbon's home. I just wanted to blend in. Anyway, her mom told us her name and told us to ask for Apple, the lady in charge. At 8am I called the office and they told me they were full for the day and I was like .... but I'm on TV... and I have a connection... I'm paying to see these elephants. I went to the office in town and, shocker, they weren't full. (Never take a "no" over the phone, no matter the country) Anyway, 5000 bhat and hour cab ride later we were standing in the presence of these magnificent creatures and it was amazing. Sophia is volunteering here and they rescue elephants, water buffalos, dogs and cats. It's a special place where they don't ride or train the elephants, they just let them enjoy their lives. Thank you to Sophia's mom for reaching out otherwise I would have missed out on today and learning about how special this place is. Fun fact? Don't ride elephants, they hate it.
