FT: Aston Villa 1-1 Leeds United - Jonathan Kodjia maintained Villa’s unbeaten home record with an 86th-minute penalty in a nerve-tingling finale at Villa Park. The striker sent Rob Green the wrong way from the spot after defender Liam Cooper handled, an offence which initially went unnoticed by referee Roger East.
Kodjia’s ninth goal of the season cancelled out a 54th-minute header by Swede Pontius Jansson – and the former Bristol City man almost clinched victory when his stoppage-time drive was blocked by Green. Kodjia had twice been denied in the opening five minutes, first by a Kevin Phillips block and then by a fine save from Green. Jordan Ayew was also unlucky when his inswinging free-kick was tipped behind by Green, while James Chester’s header drifted narrowly off target. But the visitors were ahead when Jansson met Stuart Dallas’s corner from the right with a downward header which Mark Bunn could only help over the line. There was another scare when Jansson’s volley struck the bar a couple of minutes later.
