FT: Aston Villa 2-1 Burton Albion - Ross McCormack’s late goal secured three vital points in Villa’s first-ever competitive game against Burton Albion. The Scottish striker controlled Jordan Ayew’s low cross at the far post and slammed home an 78th-minute winner, after Albert Adomah’s pass had created the opening. Leandro Bacuna had opened the scoring in front of Villa Park’s biggest crowd of the season, only for former Villa youngster Jamie Ward to equalise with a spectacular volley. Bacuna’s goal – his first for 10 months – was a firm 15th-minute header from Adomah’s fine right-wing cross.
