HT: Aston Villa 1-1 Burton Albion - Leandro Bacuna scored his first goal since February to give Villa a 15th-minute lead in the club’s first-ever competitive game against Burton Albion. But former Villa youngster silenced a packed home crowd with a 31st-minute equaliser to leave the score level at half-time. Bacuna had already gone close before opening the scoring, his low angled shot just clearing the far post when the visitors only partially cleared Alan Hutton’s cross from the right. But his goal four minutes later could not have been more emphatic. Ross McCormack began the move when he collected the wayward Burton pass and sent Bacuna racing down the left. The midfielder swept a superb crossfield ball out to Albert Adomah on the right – and then raced to the far post to meet the cross with a firm header. Ward’s equaliser was equally impressive, the striker launching himself for a spectacular volley which left Mark Bunn helpless.
