Hey friends, @ericradford85 and I would love to hear what you have to say! Should we keep the throw triple axel in our short program for the second half of the season, or should we replace it with this throw triple flip? (Which of course we'd add transitions into it, this was Eric and I's last minute choreographical change). Further food for thought. Base value of the throw triple axel is 7.7 Base Value of the throw triple lutz/flip (they are considered the "same" throw) is 5.5 . Why are they considered the same in the first place? Good question. This throw we enter from a Mohawk and on an inside edge. The throw Lutz we are gliding backwards and take off an outside edge. Two different throws. The lutz is much harder to do. But maybe one day someone can explain to us all why the base values are the same .... At Skate Canada Grand Prix we landed the triple axel and received 7.27 points. At the Grand Prix Final we fell on it and received only 2.4 , plus the 1 point fall deduction, bringing it down to 1.4 for the triple axel attempt. At NHK we fell on it as well and received less then 3 points for that as well. Our throw triple lutz usually gets between 6.2-6.5 in the long program, which is mostly GOE's of plus 1-2. We think this throw flip has potential for more plus 2s and if we added an entry maybe even some plus 3s. So. Is the risk worth it to go for the triple axel? Potential to get 7-8 points, but also risk getting 1-3 points if we fall. Or do we play safe with the throw flip/lutz and guarantee a throw with over 6 points in the short program. #pairsskating #tripleaxel #throws #shortprogram #figureskating #basevalues
