Photo by @Gerd Ludwig // More than 30 years ago the Chernobyl reactor #4 blew up, causing the world’s worst nuclear disaster to date. (It caused more radioactive fallout than Fukushima). Now the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has disappeared under a giant shield named the New Safe Confinement (NSC). Two weeks ago it has been moved over the failed reactor and the so-called sarcophagus, a hastily erected steel and concrete structure that was meant to seal in the smoldering radioactive remnants, but had become leaky and unsound. Meanwhile in the more than 100 evacuated villages inside the Exclusion Zone nature is reclaiming the many wooden homes - like this one here covered by encroaching vines.
