This little boy, who has witnessed and experienced such horrors that most of us lucky enough to have phones to be scrolling Instagram right now will never come close to even understanding. This photo was taken in August, the photo of the child washed up on shore that I can't even look at without crying was taken even longer ago. We have marched the streets for each other many times this year, demanding change in our governments, challenging policies, protesting pipe line plans. We need to apply the same level of passion, anger and resilience towards this situation too. My young friends on Instagram, talk to your friends about this, your teachers, your parents, demand conversation about the situation in #Aleppo. Flood your social networks with the hashtag. Spam the news outlets that aren't talking about it. Let's use this technology for good and help these people who are not unlike any of us, they are sons, daughters, parents, students.
As Twitter user @mr_alhamdo tweeted, " I want you to know that we are giving only two deadly choices: Death or displacement. both of them are heartbreaking. "
This isn't fair.
It's Christmas in just over a week. Why not nix gifts this year in lieu of donating to one of the many charities that are helping displaced and hurt civilians in Aleppo.
