Photograph by @paulnicklen // A piece of glacier ice that is thousands of year old spends it final days melting in a fjord along the coast of Ellesmere Island. When temperatures rise and ice melts, more water flows to the sea from glaciers and ice caps, and ocean water warms and expands in volume. This combination of effects has played a major role in raising average global sea level between four and eight inches (10 and 20 centimeters) in the past hundred years. Let’s not wait until the streets of many great cities are being flooded before we take action. Reducing our carbon footprint now will determine the Earth we live on in the future. #followme on @paulnicklen to learn more about #climatechange. #nature #melt #climatechangeisreal #instagood #sunset #ice #naturelovers
