Danny Finegood, an art student from California State University, hiked up here on January 1st 1976 with about fifty dollars worth of black and white fabric. He then cut the fabric and placed it over the two O's on the Hollywood sign so that it read 'Hollyweed'. He did it to celebrate the introduction of a relaxed marijuana law in California, but it was also part of an art project for his university. He received an A grade. Since then the security here has stepped up- the sign is monitored 24 hours a day, there's a razor sharp fence and anyone going right up to the sign is arrested (you can still get quite close though). Here's how to get here: drive to the very end of Beachwood Drive, walk through the gate to Sunset Horse Ranch. There's a faded sign with an arrow directing you to the Hollyridge trail- follow it up Mount Lee. After about forty five minutes you'll find yourself at this incredible spot. I recommend you come up for sunset @DiscoverLA #LostinLA #Hollywood #LA #LosAngeles #HollywoodSign #MtLee #GriffithPark #Sunset #USInterior #ArtofVisuals #DestinationEarth #NeverStopExploring #TravelStoke #Travel #PassionPassport @Instagram @LosAngeles_City #LosAngeles_City #Cityscape #TravelAwesome #MoodyGrams #BeautifulDestinations
