Cuban photographer Alberto Korda captured some of the most intimate moments of Fidel Castro's rise.
This photograph, named "David and Goliath" by Korda, was taken during Castro's 1959 trip to the U.S. Korda became Castro's personal photographer and friend and said of the revolutionary leader: "He was a relaxed man, very human, interested in everything and everyone.” Korda is one of six photographers who have recalled their unique moments with Castro for TIME.
