Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto/@thephotosociety Bengal tiger at dawn – A Bengal tiger emerges out of a dense reed-bed and into the dawn sunlight. Mornings in India are often so quiet that the only sounds that we hear are the alarm bark of chital, sambar or Hanuman langur. All three will alert us to the presence of their most likely predator and a great many of the guides that we use in India can distinguish between the alarm barks that these prey species use for differing threats. On this morning no such sound was heard, just a quiet padding as the tiger moved quietly through the reeds. It is impossible to articulate the thrill of experiencing these astonishing creatures first hand but every moment that I have spent with them is cherished and I remain acutely aware of the privilege that I have enjoyed. As their numbers continue to face the strain of the varying challenges that they face, from poaching to habitat loss to a lack of genetic diversity so the opportunities to experience these animals for ourselves diminish with each day. Inevitably the tigers depend on having a value, a worth to the local communities and whilst there are obvious challenges with ensuring that local communities benefit from their existence, tiger tourism remains one of the best ways to ensure their continued survival. I’m currently in the process of putting together a trip to experience these majestic animals, scheduled for November 2018 and so if this might be of interest to you then please do sign up to my mailing list here http://www.andrewparkinson.com/#/contact/4566036726 or contact me at [email protected] You can also follow me at @andyparkinsonphoto to keep up-to-date with my images @andyparkinsonphoto @thephotosociety @natgeo #andysphototours #bengaltiger #educateandinspire #ethicsbeforeimages #Bandhavgarh #nature #wildlife #naturelovers #wildlifephotography
