Many people are sending me stories that are saying that declawing is banned in New Jersey but unfortunately this is NOT true...YET.
The good news, according to the @PawProject is that this declawing bill has passed its Assembly Committee several days ago. ?To become law, the bill will have to pass an Assembly floor vote, where all the members of the Assembly can vote.
Then, an identical bill must pass the NJ state Senate -- and then a Senate floor vote.
Then, it goes to the Governor's desk where it can be signed into law.????
We have many more tough steps to go. ??
This will be a big fight since the unethical NJ veterinary association is working hard for their member vet$, who profit from declawing cat$, to stop our important cat protection bill. ?They want to be able to keep making $$ from this mutilating and inhumane procedure and are using lame excuses like, "we would rather see a cat declawed and in a home than in a shelter or euthanized." Folks, this is all BS.
Declawing does NOT keep a cat in a home!!! Look on petfinder com and see how many declawed cats are in rescues and shelters or go to facebook,in the search bar, type in "declaw" and click on "latest" and see how many declawed cats are being thrown away by their owners BECAUSE they were declawed and have biting or litter box issues or other weak excuses.
If good wins out over evil and the bill is finally passed and all cats will be safe in NJ from this horrific procedure, and then any vet that declaws a cat will face 6 months in JAIL and/or a $1000 fine.
