Here is the view of Wilson’ Bird-of-Paradise male from above, as viewed by the female, seen for the very first time ever on the BBC’s Planet Earth II that just premiered in the UK today (Nov 20). Catch it if you missed it. It will air in the US on Jan 28, 2017. The bright green color of the male’s breast shield is only visible when viewed from right in front of the male. As you can see in the previous post, when viewed side-on from the ground level, it just looks black. A great example of a signal directed at the female! It was an honor to work with @JohnAitchison1 and Edwin Scholes to film this sequence. It’s especially exciting when you can make new discoveries and film things never seen before while making a Natural History film.
