The Empty Quarter, also known as as the Rub al Khali, covers an area of over 650,000 square kilometres across Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen and The United Arab Emirates. It is known for its extremely challenging conditions, and was crossed by British explorer Bertram Thomas in 1931.
Today His Royal Highness met a team who recreated this journey in 49 days. Mark Evans, from Britain, and Mohammed Al Zadjali and Amur Al Wahibi from Oman.
The Prince of Wales is Patron of the ‘Crossing the Empty Quarter’ expedition being undertaken by the team.
